Who is a “typical” client in Charlene’s practice?
Trick question: there is no such thing as a “typical” client here! However, if any of the following questions resonate with you — and you live in Massachusetts, New York, Florida, or South Carolina — we may be a good fit to work together!
Mood or anxiety?
Are you hoping to better manage your mood or anxiety symptoms? Whether you have been clinically diagnosed with a mood/anxiety "disorder" or ADHD, simply struggle with loss of energy and motivation during the change in seasons, or get a bad case of the nerves during family gatherings at holidays, I want you to know that what you are experiencing is valid, happens more common than you think, and may even be called "normal." Whatever the case, I will collaborate with you in a non-judgmental and empathetic way to build coping skills, self-actualize, and make the changes you deem necessary to accomplish your emotional wellness goals.
Comorbid or chronic health conditions?
Are you hoping to better manage your health habits? If you are struggling with new acute medical issues, have battled chronic illness for years, or want to work on your behavioral health preventively, my services may be very appropriate for you. Informed by a longstanding pre-medical training background as well as personal and professional experience managing chronic illness, I will work with you to repair your mind-body connection by reshaping unhealthy thought patterns, changing problematic health habits, and learning to interpret, accept, and act in accordance with the messages your body is trying to send you.
Other concerns in daily living?
Are you hoping to better manage your daily life and all that it entails? Do you ever feel challenged by certain relationships, cultural differences, personal gains or losses, or other significant life changes? Are you grappling with questions about your personal values, or struggling to find your place in the intersectionality between professional, racial, cultural, socioeconomic, sexual, and gender identities? Maybe you have found yourself involved in recurring conflicts, feeling repeatedly taken advantage of or misunderstood, or otherwise unsatisfied with your day-to-day existence for no obvious reason. If any of that sounds familiar, you are not alone. I will work with you to identify and set appropriate boundaries with everyone in your life - especially with yourself - and in so doing, help you define your authentic self and your self-determined life goals.
Special cultural considerations?
Are you a Lotus Therapy Fund recipient? If so, I am pleased to announce my status as a LTF provider with the Asian Mental Health Collective as of August 2024. Participating in LTF as a provider aligns with one of my own personal missions to serve AAPI-identifying individuals in need, who otherwise might not be able to afford or access care with an AAPI-identifying therapist.
In order to work together, qualifying LTF recipients must be (1) at least 18 years old, (2) located in one of the states in which I am licensed to practice: Massachusetts, New York, Florida, or South Carolina, and (3) approved by AMHC as a LTF recipient.
To become a LTF recipient, please apply with AMHC directly. You may refer to their process here: https://www.asianmhc.org/lotus-therapy-fund/.
